Algorithm, the light fitting installation designed for Vibia by Toan Nguyen inspired by the language of mathematics used to describe the patterns and forces of nature, was awarded Interior Design’s 12th annual BoY (Best of Year) awards for Architectural Lighting category, one of the most important in the design sector.

“The intention was not to design a completely defined and ‘finished’ product, but a tool which allows any customer to create his own lighting lamp, in relation with the architecture space, the area to light and the desired kind of ‘graphic pattern’”, according to Toan Nguyen.

Algorithm consists of a series of light globes suspended at different heights and anchored to the ceiling via a floating tubular steel structure. The globes can be composed in a myriad of different ways reproducing shapes and patterns that lend the light a poetic aspect. Technical aspects can be easily resolved online through the creation of virtual models on the www.vibia.com platform until the optimum configuration is reached.

The individual light globes are manufactured from blown glass featuring a striated concentric surface pattern that itself creates a translucent and constantly changing lighting effect. The diffusers are provided with 3,5W LED light fitting that can be dimmed.

Founded in 1987, VIBIA is a design-oriented lighting manufacturer based in Barcelona. The company operates in more than 80 countries around the world, including a subsidiary in the United States.
