“The union of a innovative creation with the continuity of history”. With these words Tokujin Yoshioka described his design for the new Issey Miyake flagship store in London, at 10 Brook Street, which opened Saturday, October 11. The location is in traditional and sophisticated Mayfair, but the space, formerly occupied by a bank, has been restored to its original design and then shaped to be transformed with innovative elements that talk about a future closer than ever. The dominant color, combined with the raw concrete and the industrial flavour of the store, is blue: is offered on anodized aluminium, the result of a complicated and careful manual processing. The end result delivers a futuristic metal coldness but which, in stark contrast to the bare structure of the walls, creates a dialogue between opposites that astonishes the visitor and creates those Yoshioka defines “memory fragments scattered in space”. Meeting point between history and future, tradition and innovation, expressed in furniture, like the special Brook Ottoman designed for the new store and produced by Moroso. The perfect set for the fall/winter collection, expression of a geometric study covering classical forms of avant-garde.
