In Barcelona – a space of welcome of diverse cultures and civilizations, the color is present, from its greenest areas to its pure asphalt with the influence of all the urban art that floods the city, graffiti and murals. Antonyo Marest appropriates all these items to generate the narrative in his works on display from 8 June to 31 August 2017 at Opera Lounge  gallery  . Curated by Escalera de Incendios   STRAIT LINE is the literal translation of a very important concept in the work of Marest, since it is his main tool of work and is present in all his work.

Inspired in Barcelona, capital of contemporary art, that according to Marest’s tought is the place “where you have everything, where everything you keep is straight, a city without curves but with points that have marked me, friendships, encounters, experiences… and color, the color of this city enchants me, the sea and the mountain… the door of Europe where design and creativity come and go straight lines and communicate with the European, accompanied by a lot of color and joy.”

Inspired by the architecture and color of the town Marest creates a palette of 25 colors and geometries with which he has created exclusively for this exhibition. STRAIT LINE has 15 original works unpublished in acrylic technique on cotton paper of 600 gr. manufactured in Barcelona.

Born in the Mediterranean in 1987 and based in Madrid, Antonyo Marest having traveled across the globe, he absorbs graphic culture from America to Central Europe. Among his creative works, there are several exhibitions that take his talent from inside a museum to the clarity of the streets, sharing his art with the public in the form of painting, sculpture and photography. street art, graffiti, also noteworthy are his works of graphic, textile and industrial design, interior, furniture and clothing designs, customization, album covers, posters, merchandising, marketing campaigns, he is currently belongs and develops projects with the collective called NOVO111.

Among the motifs represented in his work, it’s his geometric pseudo-triangular figure the one that holds the importance, representing a bucket in balance. A symbol of personal growth and positivism that stays afloat against all odds. A reflection about our motivations to stay standing and move forward. Another key reason is the reference made to Memphis Group, an architectural and industrial design movement of great influence in the 80s. In different works we will see how the “memphis” combination is mixed with impossible prints, exaggerated and uneven colors. Referring to the struggle and communion of styles, movements and trends in art.
