ÈCAL: MORE RULES FOR MODERN LIFE

    • twitter facebook mail print

The presence at the Milano Design Week 2017 of ECAL/Ecole cantonate d’art de Lausanne, one of the ten best universities of art and design in the world, has been remarkable with eight events.

Among these, MORE RULES FOR MODERN LIFE, has been realized by Bachelor Industrial Design and Bachelor Fine Arts students, under the guidance of the planner and teacher Christophe Guberan and the artist Stéphane Kropf, head of Bachelor Fine Arts.

ECAL invited the visual artist John M Armleder to curate the exhibition based on flimsy distinctions between “objets d’art” and practical objects. Students have revisited some of his shows and have watched his iconic pieces, the Furniture Sculpture, among others. Then, they took inspiration by that and chose materials and processes to devise their exhibition pieces. Students worked on exhibition during a full semester spent with Christophe Guberan and Stéphane Kropf.

For the Fuorisalone 2017 they defy pre-established categories playing with scale, shapes, colours and materials. The exhibition has presented a rocking zebra for children, handless clock, minimal painting with maximalist details and many other object all piled up in a visual cacophony but totally deliberate.

Based in Lausanne, ECAL, over the years, has increased significantly the number of its projects realized all over the world in collaboration with the universities of art and design and with leading companies that are active in a wide variety of business like: Alessi, Audemars Piguet, Azzedine Alaïa, Baccarat, BCV, Bernardaud, BMW Group, Camper, Cassina, Centre Pompidou Paris, Christofle, e15, Galerie kreo, Galeries Lafayette, Galleria Carla Sozzani, Hatje Cantz, Hansgrohe Axor, Hermès, Hublot, IKEA, Mauviel, Mover Sportswear, Luceplan, Nestlé, Nespresso, Petit h, Pierre Hardy, Punkt., Rémy Martin, Scott, SIGG, Swiss International Air Lines, Swissnex, USM, Vacheron Constantin, Vitra, Wallpaper*, Woolmark.

Thanks to the network created and to the portfolio with the most professional standard, when the students have completed their studies at ECAL, they will have excellent opportunities to work for popular companies and immediately put what they learned into practice.
