Just ended in Bologna Cersaie 2014, the international exhibition of ceramics and bathroom furnishings. The basic principle followed by the best Italian companies is undoubtedly cleanness, understood as getting rid of all the unnecessary in order to return to material, and to its natural beauty, the task of being manifesto of luxury and exclusivity. Translated into stylistic language it means graphics, shapes, clear and broken lines that inevitably lead to a new interpretation of optical. Black&white is what inspired the most in decorating floors and coverings, revisited in abstract geometries or detailed mosaics that create unexpected evolutions, all under the banner of rigorous shapes. The optical is not necessarily to intend in the most classic black&white sense. It means clean graphics with strong contrasts, decorating the environment with arithmetic precision, as in the red or grey interpretations where is the link to a piece and the other to create decorative patterns, breakings, or coverings in which the alternation is obtained through different surfaces in the tiles. Still, geometric ramblings in blue or even, in the most absolute contemporaneity, in neon colors, the one of lines which draw on porcelain technological graphics with alienating effects. There are those who chose to live the geometry according to tradition, on wood or on porcelain tiles, in a coherent unity of neutral colors, yet in linear and modern compositions, or, always in monochrome, playing on empty-full, for a texture that in addition to visual pleasure also stimulates the tactile one. Finally, as tradition wants in the most luxurious spaces, marble proposals, whose natural veining designs are accentuated by cutbacks and by compositions: in addition to inspiring the most precious coverings, marble becomes material of choice for sophisticated furnishing with linear cuts that exploit at better the potential of the stone. This year, beside the main fair, the Cersaie has also extended outside with Bologna Water Design, where the distinguishing features of the bathroom, water, becomes food for thought for the many stories that it inspires, and theme of installations in which the hydraulic hoses become artistic tool to introduce the discovering of home, obviously starting from the bathroom.
