Christmas! The traditional holiday par excellence: which is why it is even more fun to go through with innovation, reinterpretation, diversity and, of course, design. We thought of all the ways to live it the way we like it, from the point of view of well-known designers and big firms as the one of young people who gave us the most interesting proposals, imagining what we would do, what we hope to find under the tree but above all what we like to give. To enter properly the Christmas mood, at least in Italy, the first thing to do is the nativity scene: nothing to do with glitter and papier-mâché though, Alessi gives an hilarious pop interpretation, adding to the classical set some new intruders to build your own favorite scene, perfectly combining to the smiling or frowning Christmas balls. Young designers Marina Cincirpini and Sarah Richiusi thought about the dinner. One is cooking enthusiast, the other an illustrator: together they imagined I Tradizionali. Thinking just to “rolling up your sleeves” to get into cooking, they have created recipes-tattoo, to be applied to the forearm and followed while preparing dinner. Old school graphics offer a Christmas specific menu, starting with winter salad and ending with the classic mulled wine; in adorable packaging there is also a shopping list to get everything you need. And then of course, gifts! For the traditionalists, who want only toys, there are Les Jouets Libres, which thanks to bold graphics and a completely eco-friendly approach, rediscover the childhood games such as checkers or subbuteo, having fun also with the packs containing them. For those who as a child loved to experiment with “Little Alchemy”, there’s its 2.0 version: The Alchemist Matter, a kit to create matter from scratch, discovering, inventing and giving shape to our own ideas, which pushes to go beyond the beautiful shapes that design can create and understand how, in concrete terms, to implement them. Do not forget the most sophisticated, seeking novelty in each field: in fashion Issey Miyake has always been a master of innovation, and for Christmas he chooses to send messages to loved ones: using a personal typographical animated alphabet, created with the graphics and shapes of garments and accessories in limited edition. For those instead who at Christmas just can’t stay in, the skateboards of Atypical abandon their retro graphics inspired by the 70s to get winterish colours, in objects whose meticulous craftsmanship makes them amazing to use as to look at. In short, there is something for all tastes, a tailor-made Christmas for those who thrive on novelty, research, in a word: design. Merry Christmas!
