Designer Rui Viana, the son of a carpenter in Porto, approached design with the ideas of those who grew up in the middle of the artisanal production but studying the production in series. Merging the two worlds he created his latest project, Bionic Sideboard for Gaming, adding the last key ring to the chain: the consumer. Designed and developed in the context of Art On Chairs 2014-15, this is a piece of furniture where the hexagonal elements, which can take on different configurations, outline what appears to the structure of a beehive. The idea is this: artisans and industry produce the object in its shape similar to a beehive; the customer who buys participates, unconsciously, to the chain of the product, and then to build a hive society. All participants have a role that is carried out on the basis of a final result. One of the players, however, is a bit more important than the others: the end customer, which in addition to deciding to purchase, is free to give to the furniture the appearance that he prefers.
