Biennale Interieur, which this year will take place from 17 to October
26, is where gather passionates and professionals in the design gather,
finding a meeting spot for experiencing trends, tastes and creative
movements. Looking forward to it, Interieur Awards have just concluded,
with the selection of 20 winners participating at the Biennale in
October. The international jury applied in exploring the impact of new
technologies and materials on product design, and how and how much these
affect the designers. Criteria by which the Keystones collection,
table and coat hanger designed by the italo-Japanese duo Minale Maeda,
from Rotterdam, was awarded with the first prize. With Keystones
they, more than just objects, created a new way of designing furniture,
using a single connector, a compact piece that can be printed in 3D, and
therefore requires no carpentry skills. The result is an extremely
simple design, in which the pieces are held together by a set of screws,
which do not penetrate the material but they just tighten it,
simplifying logistics since it is all small, easily transportable items
or even printed at the moment. Therefore the winner was intelligent use
of new technologies, which crossing industry and crafts aim to identify
new possibilities within the production.
