Sónar+D, the Congress dedicated to creative technologies, for one year only will be held next July, outside the academic calendar, on the 17, 18, 19 and 20 in parallel to Sónar by Day, at Fira Montjuïc in Barcelona.

20,000 attendees are expected at this year’s edition as well as nearly 5,000 professionals from 2,100 companies from more than 60 countries.

Among the first announced participants are teamLab, the interdisciplinary studio of immersive digital technology globally recognised for being at the forefront of the field of digital creation; Japan’s Daito Manabe and neuroscientist Yukiyasu Kamitani, who will present their unique research into the visualisation of emotions; a conference with Jessica Brillhart from Vrai Pictures presenting new experiences combining augmented reality and “spatialised” sound and Holly Herndon introducing Spawn, the artificial intelligence experiment that serves as an example of collaboration between humans and machines. The programme also features the success stories of CANADA (a game-changer in the direction of music videos and shorts), teenage engineering (the Swedish company that designs cult synthesizers) or the award-winning artistic video game Gris.

Sónar+D reinforces its formative dimension and doubles its offer of workshops and master classes by world-class creators, technologists and scientists. Thanks to the more than 1,000 placesavailable, attendees will be able to learn about the future of artistic experiences from 180 recognized experts and world-leading companies in experiential innovation. This year’s programme will reflect more than ever the academic approach that unites science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics: STEAM, in order to enhance the practical and theoreticalapproach of attendees to these disciplines through experiential learning, collaborative and immersive creation process.

Sónar+D currently has 2 open calls, the first of these is the Sónar+D Innovation Challenge, aimed at companies that want to launch a challenge to the community for the creation of prototypes that will be built and presented at Sónar+D. And secondly the call for the Exhibition Area of Sónar+D, aimed at artistic and cultural communities wishing to present devices, applications, interactive installations, virtual reality experiments and prototypes or new musical instruments.
