Bart Hess is the textile designer who invaded the digital world with its hybrid humans and latex mutants. He is the author of Lady Gaga’s costumes for Born This Way video, and also of futuristic furs made of thousands of needles. Inhuman, avant-garde and alienating works, a look due to the use of materials not intended for clothing. Despite what may seem, however, his creations derive from manual techniques that have little to do with modern technology. Bart Hess wants to show it, with Work With Me People (part III), a performance which, after having been showcased at the Dutch Design Week in 2012 and the Arnhem Fashion Biennale in 2013, arrived in Milan for the Salone del Mobile 2014. Referring to the discrepancy between the post-fordian creative industry and the enormous amount of work required to support it, the format of the exhibition offers an insight into the creative process of the designer, inviting visitors to participate actively. A path where Hess, exploring different fields with a combination of material studies, animations and photographs, provides its own interpretation in creating black coats, each outfitted with yellow latex gloves and microphones connected to the speakers of the magnificent Palazzo Clerici wing, where the exhibition took place.
