Looking at young designer’s proposals who put on display their creations in Mantova Creativa, you can’t help but notice that, in the context of self-production, is still the wood to be involved in several projects. Traditional, of course, but there is innovation indeed, using the material in unusual contexts, and especially in unexpected ways. One example is the Alien chair by Nicolò Zanoni: the designer combines a plastic chair (made with its 3D printer) to an originally shaped structure, where the peculiarity lies in the large screw that allows the sitting to spin around, adjusting the height, entirely wooden. The result is an industrial look but that leverages all the craftsmanship of “handmade”. Again wood (pine plywood for the prototype, birch for the definitive version) for Qlla, Riccardo Belfanti’s proposal. It is a versatile round-shaped nest that the designer has designed on the occasion of his daughter’s birth; simple and essential, it has a slight point of Nordic design, found especially in functionality: all the elements are super lightweight and secured with wooden wedges, occupying, once disassembled, minimal space.
