The Arata collection, designed by Valerio Sommella, takes its name from Japanese: “fresh”, “new”. A meaning that defines its very essence

The new Arata collection by SKLD Studio takes its name from Japanese: “fresh”, “new”. A meaning that defines its essence — that of a collection with elegant lines, simple and clean in form, yet rich in personality.

At the Salone del Mobile, SKLD Studio places its trust in an internationally acclaimed Italian designer, Valerio Sommella, whose collaborations span renowned companies across different sectors, including Alessi, Nemo and RH. For the Spanish brand, this marks the first collaboration with an Italian designer: a deliberate choice, carrying with it a design sensibility deeply rooted in the tradition of great design.

The design process started from the seating elements, with particular emphasis on the dining chair. Being the most essential and at the same time most complete piece in the range, it serves as the blueprint for the entire collection,” says designer Valerio Sommella. “The metal structure embodies the essence of Arata: a continuous curve that forms the armrests and backrest, merging seamlessly with the rear legs to create a silhouette that is at once classic and contemporary. The intricate weave of the backrest adds a touch of artisanal warmth, softening the industrial lines with a rhythmic, organic pattern that invites breathability and plays with light.”

Designed to create elegant and airy settings — from dining and lounge areas to the poolside — the collection is distinguished by soft curves and generous radii, and by a handcrafted weave that recalls the classic elements of macramé. The aluminium tube frame, available in two colours, Grey Brown and Rust, dialogues with the warmth of the braided cord in a natural tone and soft cushions, resulting in a well-balanced blend of refinement and understatement, sophisticated and striking in equal measure.

The result is a complete collection encompassing all key elements — two- and three-seater sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and bench, rocking chair, daybed, sun lounger and coffee table in two shapes — that feels equally at home in a garden, on a terrace or indoors, bringing a contemporary and timeless character to any setting.

Two pieces best embody its spirit, inviting something increasingly rare: to pause, breathe, and dream with eyes wide open. The daybed and the rocking chair.

Designed for spaces that breathe — from dining areas to terraces, from the garden to the poolside — Arata brings soft curves and enveloping cushions into a rare balance of refinement and restraint. Sophisticated without being pretentious, impactful without raising its voice.

The rocking chair inhabits a garden, a terrace or an interior with equal ease, bringing to every setting the same character: contemporary and timeless.

We have long admired Italian design,” says Jose Revert, CEO of SKLD Studio. “When we met Valerio, we found not only a talented designer, but a person with a clear vision and a deep design culture. ARATA is the result of a genuine dialogue, and we are proud that it marks our first collaboration with an Italian designer.”
