It is now clear how design and food go hand in hand, but a particularly interesting result is achieved when different nationalities, associated to diametrically opposed cultures, come together and interact with each other in a so surprisingly complementary way. Happens to Taiyo Sushi Restaurant, one of the most famous Japanese restaurants in Milan, where sushi is not just a fad but a genuine testimony of Japanese food culture, that has embraced a decidedly Western project of interior design, result of the synergy between the architect and set designer Maurizio Lai and Billiani. The aim pursued is that of the celebration of the fusion for which Taiyo is so popular in Milan, achieved with an effective balance between tradition and innovation. Croissant, chairs designed by Emilio Nanni and workhorse of Billiani, show their flexible beechwood structure, upholstered in black or beige leather, in the great central hall and in the two secondaries. Fundamental element is the light, the subject of a dialogue with material conducted by Lai Studio, which tried to recreate a metropolitan and refined environment using a global aesthetic language. A mix of styles and genres, from ultra modern metallic mesh that covers the ceiling in contrast to glass and wood paneling of the walls, for a great scenic effect magnified by the bright abstract decorations that invade the walls. A universal fusion which from food embraces the entire environment, for a clear cultural statement.
