After only a few years after graduation at HDK, School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden, Markus Johansson affirmed a sophisticated aesthetic focused on design simplicity, which preserves the important feature of being able to interact with the objects you imagine, looking at them with ironic eye. A non-taking yourself too seriously, without forgetting functionality, that with the Nest Chair has earned him a place at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. In his new collection of objects he goes on the same line, proposing elements where the concept that drove creation is prominently displayed, accompanied by research on material and workmanship. We can see it well in Fortress, the steel table, revolving yet stable, organic and decorative, coated with copper or bronze. The young designer’s eye is clearly visible in the Carronade lamp which, in its small Cannon shape, declares war to darkness, winning with an unexpectedly strong light for its small size. The interaction, followed by customizing, is the key component of Hello Dude, the table lamp that can lift its cap to give light the desired direction, going where the “dude” watch. A boost to design without forgetting that you have to have fun with what you produce and establish with objects a physical and emotional relationship.
