“Animal House” was the exhibit presented by Marni for the just-concluded Milan Design Week: a caravansary located at 42 Viale Umbria, hosting giraffes, ostriches, rabbits, ducks, donkeys and flamingos, made in metal and colourful PVC by the hands of a group of Columbian women from the town of Iza, a covey of houses near the Tota Lake, i.e. Columbia’s biggest lake. A video-documentary allows us to discover their faces and stories: with crafts they succeeded in shaking the stuck local economy, facing growing unemployment and earned emancipation. Every piece is unique and needs technical skill, time and patience. In addiction to animals, some curious chairs complete the ensemble: armchairs with single or double arm and benches can be mixed together in infinite matchings. The project’s main theme was asymmetry, perfectly expressed by the genuine distinctiveness of every item, by the shapes’ multiplicity that gives birth to unlimited spatial combinations.
