Dylan van den Berg and Wieki Somers are the designers of Studio Wieki Somers, which this year celebrates 10 years of activity. Time in which both have honed the ability to experiment with shapes and materials by analyzing the objects that make up the everyday life and wondering where they come from, how did they become what they are. An almost philosophical approach to design, leading to the creation of products where a long personal history goes along also with an ingenuity in the use of materials and technology, precisely because there is no trace of sophistication but just pure experimentation. Working in this way Studio Wieki Somers transforms the observation of a detail in an object inspired by it, as the Frozen in Time series, in which the gelid Dutch climate has led to the design of home accessories that look literally frozen in time; the Samurai code of honor, composed of seven virtues, has instead led them to Bushido, a series of seven men-size lamps, where a traditional manufacturing mixes with ultra technological materials. The world that they can outline seems detached from the real one, to go into a parallel dimension where the object becomes compromise between real and imagined.
